How to submit your website to FREE Web Directories

Some things to be aware of when submitting to FREE Search Directories . . .
You may be required to provide and receive email confirmation, newsletters and updates in exchange for their free directory services.
Set up a special email account for your listing project.
It is a good idea to set up a "disposable" email account on your website domain - something like . . . "mydirectorys@yoursite.com" . . . as most require your email verification to come from the domain you are registering to protect them and you from fraud and to help enhance the security of the listing.
Legitimate directories will allow you to change your email address and even close your website listing account and stop any future emails. However once in awhile you will find that you inadvertently published your email address or someone less ethical discovered it, sells or gives it to the "spammers" and they start hammering your email address to death. By using a disposable domain based email account you can easily remove it, change to a new one, then notify all those to whom you want to continue to do business with of the change.
Follow their submission guidelines . . .
Carefully read their submission guidelines as to how you are to properly submit your site and your site content to their review. Failure to do so may very well eliminate your site from being posted. Be honest. Be real. Be accurate. Educate yourself and use the free website/webmaster tools you will often find on these free services to confirm and improve the metatag content, title, key words and the site description for your web site. That alone is well worth the effort and time you will put into a manual directory listing project and will ultimately enhance your site ranking in all the major metacrawler engines.
They are under no obligation to list your site . . .
They will review it and decide based on their policy's and category guidelines. Most are actually human reviewed and so it can take some time to get processed and posted into the directory, however that is often why they are of more value and quality and why it is worth the time it takes to submit to them.
