Some key essential web pages used for message and mission communication . . .
To solve the problem of effectively communicating the dynamic and essential points of who you are and why you are here, a few easily identifiable key web page areas have evolved into a "cult" standard within many websites.
1) The index, default or home web page . . .
Of course the number one communicator of your site message is your index page. This is the web page that loads when your base url is entered in a web browser.
For example rimsurfer.com.
Even though no specific web page is identified in this url (ie like say - rimsurfer.com/contactus.html) the web server knows to load the default index page which most persons think of and call their "home page".
It is essential that this page load quickly and then in the simplest, most understandable and concise form possible communicate your core message in the "above the fold" top view area. This is the area that can be seen on a typical sized desk top monitor screen before any scrolling downward is required. If any of these suggestions fail to occur the site will most likely experience a high "bounce rate".
2) The tried, true and standard "about us" web page . . .
By placing the link to the about us page at the left side of the top primary horizontal menu bar or near to the top of the left hand vertical menu column bar it will be readily seen, found and used.
We have found that we do not prefer to go below the view line with primary and important links as most menu bar items that fall below the fold or run along the bottom of the page seldom get viewed and almost never get used.
3) The occasional but well defined "mission" or purpose web page . . .
If you have a complex or highly defined mission or even a very unique almost one of a kind website business this page is a good choice to add.
If you expand on the key elements of your mission message developing them into a few well written paragraphs of meaningful explanatory text it can be very effective in persuading those interested to continue on and into the site. Personalized, first person content is often very effective for local businesses or sites that are built on the experience and credibility of one to a few persons or a successful family business.
Include links to supportive internal and external content . . .
Including links to your own internal supportive content, examples and client testimonial web page content can be an effective use of html to get your unique mission and message communicated while leading and motivating the viewer to go deeper into your site.
These special content web pages can also take some pressure off your home page allowing you to develop it with other more appealing content.
Next what is this concept called website "stickiness"?
